Lia Menaker – With a voice described by critics as “soulful, haunting,” “soothing and accessible,” Lia Menaker has emerged onto the singer-songwriter scene as a soulful storyteller, infusing edgy poetry and a theatrical flair into a musical blend of pop, rock, and blue-eyed soul. Think Joni Mitchell meets Fiona Apple in an old cabaret club.
Lia was a co-lead vocalist of folk/rock band Broken Darling from 2011-2013, during which they released their first self-titled EP. After the release, a reviewer from The Jersey Beat named her “an undiscovered star.” In 2015, she released her debut solo album Animal Behavior, which was described as “like sitting at home with a nice bottle of wine next to the fire.” Since the album release, she has performed in various venues in Northern Colorado and Atlanta, performed on KRFC 88.9 radio’s “Live at Lunch,” and was featured in Scene Magazine’s 2016 Fresh Talent Showcase. She will be performing across the country in late Summer to early Fall of 2017, and is in the process of working on two singles, expected to be released by the end of the year.
“Menaker is an undiscovered star-a performer with a soulful, haunting voice that shines…” – Rich Quinlan; “The Jersey Beat”
“This is Lia Menaker’s debut album, and she definitely gives us all she has. Her soulful voice mixed with her conversational vocals is soothing and very accessible… the album is like sitting at home with a nice bottle of wine next to the fire…Each song tells a different story and each story is so complex.”
– Mikaela Antonelli; Northern CO’s “Scene Magazine”
